'Good buildings come from good people, and all problems are solved by good design'
Stephen Gardiner
Design and Technology is an inspiring and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems, within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. At Throston Primary School, we provide opportunities for children to take risks, become resourceful and solve problems. Pupils are taught to design, make and evaluate using an iterative process. They develop their subject knowledge and links with maths, science, computing and art and develop a critical understanding of the impact of design and technology on their daily life and the wider world.
By the time our children leave us to transfer to secondary school, they will:
- develop knowledge and skills to design and make products for a range of users including how to strengthen, stiffen and reinforce more complex structures; understand and use mechanical and electrical systems in their products and use computing to program, monitor and control their products
- evaluate and test their own ideas and products
- understand how to cook using a range of cooking techniques and apply the principles of a healthy and varied diet
