Throston Primary School

A Flying Start to Success

Physical Development

At Throston, we plan activities to help children to develop their control and co-ordination in large and small movements such as jumping, climbing, handling construction tools and pencils.

Fine Motor Skills

In Reception focus will be on fine motor skills development, through craft activities, including cutting, sticking and sewing. There is an emphasis on pencil control and correct letter formation, with handwriting lessons.

Gross Motor Skills

Gross motor skills are developed through exploration in the Forest school and in the garden with use of resources including, obstacle courses, bats and balls, beanbags, hoola hoops, skipping ropes and tiger feet. In Reception children have dedicated PE sessions, which include, fundamental skills, dance, gymnastics and yoga.
