A Flying Start to Success

Literacy

We provide lots of opportunities for talking, language comprehension and vocabulary extension. Within the Early Years Village, we provide an environment rich in print and books, both fiction and non-fiction, to enable the children to develop their early literacy skills.

Children participate in daily speaking and listening activities which encourage general sound discrimination (environmental sounds, instrumental sounds and body percussion), rhythm and rhyme, alliteration, voice sounds and oral blending and segmenting.

They begin to recognise letters and give the sound that they represent, using Little Wandle Letters and Sounds  to support this.

They enjoy activities to support fine motor skills and mark making activities.
