Understanding the World
At Throston, we encourage your child to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding that help them to make sense of the world.
Planned activities and play opportunities guide the children to make sense of their physical world. They have the opportunity to investigate plants, animals and mini-beasts using first hand experiences gained through our garden or forest school and the use of external visitors to the school.
Children are encouraged to talk about past and present events in their own lives and in the lives of family members.
A range of resources including books, photographs, figures, film clips and artefacts from other cultures will give your child an awareness of different communities and their celebrations. They will become aware that there are different countries and they may differ.
Through play activities they explore different materials and how they can be changed as well as experiencing forces, with cars down ramps for instance and investigate floating/ sinking and freezing/ melting.
